Extremely rare find .  Original STAR PLUG TOBACCO advertising poster tin tag exchange promotion , dated to expire Nov. 30 1900s.   I found this amazing poster by chance as it was hidden in the frame behind a religious print and as seen in pictures backed to wood , this wood was part of the wall on the corner store where the tobacco was sold in New Orleans.  Haven't seen this advertising piece before and doubt there's many if any out there for sale now.   The poster is made of cardboard and backed to the wood.  Measures 23" x 17.5"  comes in original frame as fond with old wavy glass. 

If you look in detail you'll see that this advertises a promotion and dome of the items offered in exchange for the tin tags that came with the tobacco plug.  Many Americans had the hobby of collection tin tags and trade them , specially between 1880s and the 1920s . Some collected them for the aesthetics and some for more practical reasons as exchanging them for household products as advertise in this poster.  So for example you could trade 2000 tags for a Remington double barrel shot gun caliber 10 0r 12 / Or maybe 1000 tags for a sterling silver full jeweled pocket watch !

Tin tags were replaced for paper coupons from 1920 on and collecting slowly fade of as the coupons could never replace the tin tag in the hearts of collectors.
