DESCRIPTION

The first edition, first impression, of this work from the Chicago born socialite Mary Borden, who during the First World War funded and worked in a military hospital on the French front.

Comprised of short stories, 'written recently from memory', alongside further poems and sketches penned during the war years, this work was published in the same year as such classics as 'A Farewell to Arms', and 'All Quiet on the Western Front', though in its form has been compared to the works of modernist authors including Edith Sitwell and Ezra Pound.

In the scarce publisher's original dust wrapper, unclipped.

With Percy Smith's image of Thiepval, near the Somme, serving as the frontispiece.

A celebrated account of life on the front.
