Genuine Handmade Don Hansen DH Correction Bit Stainless Loose Cheek 8.5 inch Shank

The ORIGINAL Don Hansen Correction bit is probably one of the most popular and useful bits in the performance horse business.  The forerunner of the many copies out there, Don Hansen invented the correction mouthpiece in the early 1980's.  This MADIN THE USA bit won't bend, break, and generally fall apart like the imported copies.  Don Hansen perfected this bit for function and balance.  The mouthpiece is a copper alloy that promotes a soft mouth.  The shanks are stainless steel.  This particular bit would be a great bit for the horse that needs more curb pressure and some port to reinforce your cues.

This is a very rare Don Hansen bit which features a longer 8.5 inch "S" shank, that allows you to easily flex the horse's head laterally for correct circles and turns and has increased leverage for a more advanced horse.  This is a pre-owned bit in very well maintained lightly used condition with some light rusting on the tie bar which is not stainless like the shanks.  This bit features a 2 inch high x 1-3/4 inch wide port.  The correction mouthpiece measures 1/2 inch diameter by 5 inch wide mouthpiece.  The shanks are AQHA and NRHA legal, and the 8.5 inch limit as measured by the rulebook.  The purchase is 2.75 inches for a leverage ratio of 3.2 to 1.  Don Hansen manufactures the famous #102 correction bit, along with custom bits for the horse show enthusiast.  Hansen bits are AMERICAN made in Red Bluff, California.

This is a genuine collector's bit and the inside of the right hand shank is stamped with his maker's mark "DH" as shown in the photos.  The bit weighs 15 ounces which makes it a really nice bit for the well trained horse.  Don't miss out on the chance to add this great Don Hansen bit to your training and show collection.

And the short, curved-back shank allows you to easily flex the horse's head laterally for correct circles and turns. Overall, a really good bit for a horse that needs to pay more attention but isn't ready for a longer shanked bit.
