Title: The differential and integral calculus, containing differentiation, integration, development, series, differential equations, differences, summation, equations of differencess..
Publication: London: Robert Baldwin, [1842]

Description: First edition, 8vo, pp. xx, [1], 4-785, [1], 64; quarter black leather over marbled boards, gilt title on spine; edges rubbed, joints cracked, text clean and sound, bookplate of chemist Sydney Ross on pastedown, good. Originally published in 25 parts between 1836 and 1842, The Differential and Integral Calculus provided "good discussion of fundamental principles with a definition of the limit which is probably the first precise analytical formulation of Cauchy's somewhat intuitive concept. The same work contains a discussion of infinite series with an original rule to determine convergence precisely when simpler tests fail" (DSB IV p. 35). This is likely the first state, without the addenda or the canceled title as called for in the Baldwin & Cradock imprint, and with all of the errors uncorrected within the text.
