AQUARIUM

Original chromo-lithograph from 1897 (no reprint)

The beautiful original color stone print (chromolithograph) shows animals from the aquarium of the Zoological Station in Naples:
Sponges, jellyfish, corals, starfish, sea squirt, tube worms, crustaceans, lobster, snails, sea squirt, moray eel, dogfish, stingray, weever, gurnard, giant perch, electric ray and others. Chromolithographs or stone prints are old, colorful plates. Measured in terms of brilliance and luminosity, they surpass almost every modern print. Up to 21 colors were printed one on top of the other in a very complex printing process. This technique was developed at the beginning of the 20th century. At the end of the 19th century, offset printing was replaced by cheaper but poorer quality.

These works of art, which are more than 100 years old, are a real feast for the eyes when framed.

Sheet size approx. 24 x 30 cm, folded in the middle.
A bit too big for the scanner, but uncut in the original.

Condition: very well preserved - see scan!

The original print was produced in the Bibliographic Institute Leipzig/Vienna and dates from the 5th century. Edition of Meyers Konversations-Lexikon.

The shipping is of course fast and kink-proof packaging!
