Dark Blue Transferware Pearlware Child’s Miniature Tureen ‘FISHERS’ CEM c 1850 Staffordshire
Reference: Doris Lechler, ‘English Toy China’, Figure No. 214, pp 83, 195-6. This is a child’s miniature Tureen with Lid and Underplate transfer printed in dark blue in the ‘Fishers’ pattern made by Cork Edge & Malkin, c 1850. This miniature Tureen would have been part of a dinner service made for a child. The name of the pattern, ‘Fishers’ with C.E.&M., the maker, is printed on the undersides of the Tureen and the Underplate. The ‘Fishers’ pattern depicts a boy and girl sitting by the side of a river with their fishing poles; cows wading in the water near a bridge in the distance. This pattern has a chain of heart-shaped circles and stylized fleur-de-lis border trim. The finial sits on a bocage, and the finial and handles are accented in the dark blue color, and finished with a pearlware glaze.

Tureen Lid has a 1” hairline at the top by the ladle opening,
Small tone spot on back.
Underplate: 5.75” x 5” D x .625” H
Please excuse the white reflections in the photos. This miniature Tureen with Lid and Underplate are in excellent condition with the exceptions listed above; there is age-related crazing and occasional transfer skips or smudges. Minor typical firing imperfections consistent may appear sporadically due to the production methods at the time of making. Presented as is and as found.
