A superb disc of arias and songs from this great tenor. This is committed and fine music-making. The digitally remastered analogue sound is rich, full, clear and warm. The great man is at his finest here. This is a recorded concert from Salzburg on July 31st 1976, with piano, played by Leone Magiera, his chosen partner so often. The recorded sound is very good.

To fill the disc is a selection of arias with Pavarotti and, mainly, Ingvar Wixell, the orchestra again conducted by Magiera. Wixell is on absolutely tip top form and sounds magnificent throughout. This was recorded in the Golden Gate Park, San Francisco at a live event from September 14th, 1975. The live sound is a bit odd, as if recorded from the audience, but close up, unlike the Salzburg concert recording.

The disc is excellent and plays perfectly. The box has a few marks from normal use and the booklet insert is pretty good. Someone has amended a few marks on one page, see photo. There is some discolouration from age.

Gala 1996 release of material recorded in 1975 and 1976, digitally remastered from analogue sources.
