Over the years, they introduced various innovative motorcycle models, with the Hydra Glide being one of them. The Hydra Glide model was an engineering milestone, boasting a hydraulic front fork suspension system that provided a smoother ride compared to its predecessors. This was a significant advancement in motorcycle technology at the time, and quickly became popular among riders. The Hydra Glide was available with either Panhead engine, the EL or larger FL both of which delivered consistent and smooth performance. The engine featured a bore and stroke ratio, which contributed to its well-known power output. The motorcycle was capable of producing impressive 60 horsepower with the 74 cubic inch engine and 55 in the 61 making it a popular choice among enthusiasts. The transmission system of the Hydra Glide was designed to provide smooth gear shifts, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable riding experience. The clutch was engineered to offer an effortless, yet solid engagement, further enhancing the bike’s overall performance. FL Hydra-Glide is a classic motorcycle that boasts an iconic design that has captivated enthusiasts for decades. FL Hydra Glide is powered by a four-stroke, air-cooled engine with a displacement of 74 cubic inches, or 1,207 cc. This engine boasts a compression ratio of 8:1, ensuring plenty of power for long road trips and comfortable rides. The motorcycle’s engine utilizes a chain-driven primary and a belt-driven final drive. The Hydra Glide was a touring motorcycle, and therefore handling and ride quality were paramount to its success. The wheelbase of the bike is 59.5 inches, providing excellent stability on long rides. The bike’s suspension system used hydraulic forks for the front and an adjustable hydraulic shock absorber at the rear, offering riders of the day a comfortable and smooth ride they couldn’t get from any other motorcycle available at that time. Electrics on the Hydra Glide featured a 12-volt system instead of the traditional 6-volt power source.
