For sale we have an oversized Omega Reference 2800-1P watch, dating to 1954. It has a 35mm Stainless Steel case with tapered lugs, and a lug-to-lug measurement of 44.25mm. The dial is a patinated silver satin tone, with beautiful rose gold tone, applied arrow hour markers, with Arabic 9, 12, 3 and applied Omega logo. It has a simple cross hair sub-second with original rose gold tone sub-second hand and the original Dauphine style hands indicate the time. The snap on case back has a brushed finish to the centre and inside, it is signed Omega Watch Co, with the reference 2800-1P. The excellent Omega cal 266 movement is inside. It has the classic rose gold tone finishing which catches the eye. It is in very good condition inside and has been serviced, with it keeping time to within -8 seconds a day. This is a robust and reliable Omega calibre.

 

Overall, this is an excellent Omega from the mid 1950s, with a real wrist presence with its oversized case for the period. It is a neat case which hugs the wrist with its tapered lugs. The rose gold tone numerals are eye catching and neatly laid out, providing balance. An eye-catching vintage Omega, which has also been serviced.

Dial: 

The dial is original and is in average condition. It has a silver satin finish which has speckled ageing. There are two scratches to the bottom of the dial. The signing is good and clear, with good original arrow and Arabic hour markers.

 

Hands: 

The hands are of luminous dauphine style and are original. They are in average condition with original lume in-fill.

 

Glass: 

The acrylic crystal is a replacement which is in good condition with no marking.

 

Crown: 

The Steel crown is a well matched replacement and is not signed Omega.

 

Case: 

The case is Stainless Steel and is in decent condition. The bezel is good with light surface scratching. The sides of the case have lots of light scratches and some nicks.

 

Caseback:

The snap on case back is in average condition. It has a polished outer section which does have some marking. The brushed finish to the main face has been refinished.

 

Strap: 

The watch comes on a new genuine leather strap.

 

Movement: 

The movement is an Omega cal 266. It is a manual wind movement with sub-second and a jewel count of 17. It has a Breguet hairspring and Incabloc shock protection. It is a very accurate workhorse of a movement.

 

The movement has been serviced by ourselves. It’s keeping time to within -8 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 315 degrees and a beat error of 0.8m/s.
