Description

The Gentle Control Hackamore is an innovative new, kinder hackamore for horses and horsemen alike that improves the communication between horse and rider. The GCH will fit any size headstall as long as it has a throat latch. The throatlatch goes through the keeper loop at the top of the GCH where it is suspended at three points (the other two being the headstall attached between the braided hackamore buttons). Any style of reins is compatible with the GCH as long as the rein attachment points are no wider than 5/8 inch. The GCH hangs just like a halter until pressure is applied. The adjustment for the GCH is 1 inch clearance between the jaw and control plate please see photos. In order to accommodate the one inch of clearance, adjust the headstall to raise or lower the hackamore for fit.

The fulcrum point is in the middle of the control plate, half way between the rein attachment points and the lower jaw contact point. This positioning allows the horse to feel exactly the same pressure that is applied to the reins. When pressure is applied for reining, backup, stop, or collection, pulling on the reins will pivot the top end of the control plate. It is a pound for pound pressure, just like a teeter-totter. Once pressure is released, the horse feels instant and total release as the plate drops right away from the horse. The positioning of the plate under the jaw is higher than where the nose band is, which encourages the horse to break at the poll. When correctly adjusted and properly used the Gentle Control Hackamore will assist in neck reining because all pressure is applied on one side of the horse at a time. As the neck rein pressure is applied, the aluminum plate twists and applies pressure to the side of the jaw. Softness and relaxtion are encouraged by the hackamore's light weight, and instant complete release the horse feels when the rider releases the reins. Collection is encouraged by gently pulling back on the reins tightening the noseband over the bridge of the nose which sits lower on the horse's head than where the aluminum plate contacts the underside of the jaw. This hackamore action encourages the horse to break at the poll and helps to round up the shoulders, discouraging hollowing out of the horse's back. Head tossing is discouraged because when properly adjusted, it feels like a halter to the horse when no rein pressure is applied. Additionally, excessive pulling is discouraged due to the sensitive pressure points that are accessed by the Gentle Control Hackamore.

The GCH teaches neck reining quickly on any horse, especially young horses, because of the pressure on the right or left underside of the jaw. For neck reining, pressure is applied with the GCH asking the horse to move in a direction, the control plate has a pivoting action, applying pressure on the same side of the jaw as the neck rein pressure. This action helps clear up signals for the horse. Soft hands should be employed with the Gentle Control Hackamore. When properly used, the result has been a more relaxed horse with increased responsiveness. This hackamore bit is for the horsemen who strive to work their horses more productively and without annoyance.
