Kawatsura lacquerware is a traditional craft from Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture.
The origin of Kawatsura lacquerware dates back to the 12th century, during the Kamakura period. It all began when he took up a side job of processing weapons to survive the harsh winters. It then moved on to everyday utensils such as bowls, trays, and jubako.
