The world is full of culinary masterpieces, and the original dish that most fully conveys the taste and centuries-old culture of Ukraine is Ukrainian borscht. For Ukrainians, borscht is more than just a dish. Over time, Ukrainian borscht gained worldwide recognition, becoming a symbol of Ukrainian cuisine and the embodiment of Ukrainian tradition. Borscht is revered everywhere, and the cooking recipe is passed down from generation to generation. In 2022, UNESCO added Ukrainian borscht to the list of objects of intangible cultural heritage in need of protection, which is intended to spread knowledge about the cultural and gastronomic traditions of Ukraine throughout the world.
The obverse of the coin features: at the top, a small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine, to the left and right of which are the inscriptions in a semicircle: UKRAINE, year of coin minting – 2023; the denomination of the coin is 5/hryvnia; below – the logo of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine; in the center is a picture of a housewife preparing Ukrainian borscht against the background of the stove, which symbolizes the continuity of the people's life, warmth, coziness, well-being, family happiness, decorated with an ornament based on the Tryplian motif, which represents the age-old history and tradition of borscht preparation.
On the reverse side of the coins there is a stylized composition filled with traditional Ukrainian color and everyday life: in the center is a plate with borscht, as if a "stormy lake" symbolizing deep Ukrainian culture and traditions, the inscription - BORSHCH (decorative element - pad printing).
