ABERDOUR: THE PIER.
This seaside village is about seven and a half miles across the Firth of Forth from Leith, with which it has regular steamer communication several times a day. It was of more importance as a centre of steamer traffic before the opening of the Forth Bridge, but is still a favourite seaside resort, its sheltered situation, good sea- bathing, and mild climate attracting many visitors. The old pier is picturesque, and encloses a fair tidal harbour: there is also a more modern iron structure. A row of new villas was built along the Shore Road in 1880. A berdour Castle is the ruin of a baronial mansion burnt down a century and a half ago; and the ruins of the old Decorated Church of St. Fillan's are also interesting.
