If you're not familiar with promos, there's almost always some difference from the standard version (not always though)
Firstly, all these come in thin cardboard sleeves instead of standard jewel cases with front & back inserts.
Here are some other possible differences:
1) Different front cover art (or promo markings)
2) Different back cover art (or promo markings, band bio, etc)
3) Different CD art (or promo markings)
4) Different track listing (different order, more cuts, less cuts, etc)
5) Different track numbering (it is common to put all songs on a single cut)
6) Voiceover (sometimes a person actually says "this is a promo" or something like that between or during cuts)
7) Extra insert (band bio, stickers, etc)
