up for sale is a beautiful and well preserved Victorian Steamer Dome Top (aka, barrel trunk, camel-back) trunk, from the 19th century. The front was left untouched as this is it's original decorated patina.  The hardwood throughout the chest is also beautifully original and unpainted. See pictures. The areas that are painted black, appear to have been repainted. Structurally this junk is in excellent condition, - no mold wood rod or odd smells.

The inside fabric was redone at some point, with decorative fabric.  The  inside box cover, is compartmentalized and is in very good condition cosmetically and structurally.  The manufacturer of the lock is Yale and Towne Manufacturing Co. No key.  Overall this trunk is a very attractive vintage piece that would go well with any decor; with the very ornate embossed metal panels, original stained curved hardwood, and original heavy leather strap handles, still in good condition.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

"This trunk was commonly called a camel back, dome top or steamer trunk. The top on this trunk curves both directions. This design was first made in the early 1800's in Europe. The top was designed to prevent other luggage from being stacked atop them when used in traveling by ship to America. They were made in a wide range of sizes."
