VERY RARE, VERY FANCY, 8" REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD  PISTOL POWDER HORN, DECORATED WITH ORIGINAL LARGE BRASS TACKS !!!

DESCRIPTION: Particularly nice Revolutionary War PISTOL POWDER HORN, typically used by officers with their flintlock pistols.

This one is very unusual.....carved well, and WITH LARGE BRASS TACKS FOR A DECORATIVE WAY TO HOLD THE WOODEN PLUG IN. I've never seen a powder horn so nicely decorated, as these tacks were not cheap and hard to find. There are 8 tacks around the perimeter, each measuring about 3/8" diameter. Nice aged brass patina on the tacks.

Nice carving at the pouring end and a fancy carved wooden butt plug as shown. Horn measures about 8" along its length. Pouring end is very nicely carved. HAS A VERY NICE, NICELY HAND-CARVED WOODEN BUTT PLUG, again held in by the great looking early brass tacks. Also has a nice early iron hook on the plug to attach the rawhide strap.

This has all the attributes, design, style, patina, and look of a Revolutionary War period horn as shown. And the size and tacks indicate use by a Revolutionary War officer.

Has a particularly nice look to it, for addition to a collection or to hang with an early pistol or musket over a fireplace.

FIRST ONE I HAVE EVER SEEN WITH SUCH A NICE BRASS TACK DECORATION AND OVERALL SMOOTHNESS AND DESIGN.

Excellent condition overall. An unusual item, from an early Massachusetts estate.
