For sale we have a Cyma Triplex watch from the early 1950s. The Triplex was referred to as such due to it being ‘triple sealed’ at the crown, crystal, and screw back. This example has an excellent dial with a military design in a cream tone. It has a mix of radium lumed Arabic and dot markers with a triangle at 12 and a dash marker at 6 O’clock. It is signed Cyma Triplex, with shock-absorber above the sub-second dial. It is neatly balanced with the inset sub-second. It has a neat set of thermally blued pencil hands with the original aged lume. It has a 33mm chrome case which has brassing with age. To the rear is the Stainless snap on back, signed internally with the reference 1.8370. Inside is a recently serviced Cyma calibre R.414KA which is shock-protected. It is keeping good time.

This is a well-designed watch with a charmingly patinated military design dial. The Cyma movement is of top quality, being designed and manufactured in-house.

Dial:

The dial is original and is in average condition for the age. It has a fascinating tropicalised patination. This speckled pattern represents unique ageing. It has the original lume to the hour markers, with clear signing.

Hands:

The hands are original. They are thermally blued with original lume in-fill. There is some corrosion to them

Glass:

The crystal is a replacement and is in perfect condition.

Crown:

The crown is original, in Stainless Steel. It has a slight dent to it.

Case:

The chrome plated case is original and has aged. It has brassing, with the chrome plate having worn and the gold from the brass below showing through.

Caseback:

The case back is formed of Stainless Steel and is in good condition. It has the original brushed finish which has worn with age. It has light surface scratching.

Strap:

The watch is on a new genuine leather strap.

Movement:

The movement is a Cyma 414Ka, which is manual wind with sub-second and shock proofing. It has a jewel count of 15 and a 48-hour power reserve.

The movement is working well and has been recently serviced. It is currently keeping time to within +40 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 245 degrees and a beat error of 1.3 m/s.
