Child Miniature Staffordshire Partial Dinner Service Kate Greenaway, Mother Goose, c 1890

Kate Greenaway (1846-1901), was the English illustrator and writer, who became world-renowned due to her writings and delightful depictions of children and their activities; her career began after she graduated from her formal art training around 1871.  

This partial Dinner Service was produced by Ridgways using Kate Greenaway’s illustrations from Mother Goose.  The pieces in this set have a variety of illustrations from Mother Goose with a portion of the rhyme underneath; these transfers are done on a creamy background with gold/gilt edges.  With the exception of the Tureen, all of the pieces are marked with the ‘Ridgways England’ trademark and ‘Mother Goose or The Old Nursery Rhymes’ on the bottom.

This set consists of: 

(1)   Tureen with Lid: 5.25” W x 3.5” D x 3” H

       Small chip to back rim.

Graduated Quatrefoil Platters:

(1)   6.25” W x 4.75” D 

(1)   5” W x 4” D   

(4)   Plates:   4.5” W 

(2)   Soup Bowls: 4.5” W 

Please ignore the white glare marks in the photos.  This child’s Tea Set has been played with and cherished by children and is in excellent condition with an exception noted above.   There may be crazing  and minor firing and stilt imperfections typical of pieces manufactured at this period of time, but nothing that diminishes the display value of this very unusual and colorful dinner set, made by a well-known pottery.  Presented here as found and as is.
