KILLARY BAY AND LEENANE, CONNEMARA.
The Killary can scarcely be termed a bay, being rather likened by common consent to a narrow Norwegian fiord nine miles long by about a mile wide, on both sides of which mountains and precipices seem to rise almost out of the water. The entrance is particularly grand, being guarded on the north by the giant eminence of Mwealrea, 2,690 feet high. The surface is often almost still, reflecting perfectly the outlines of the surrounding hills; and such calmness and depth of water make this wonderful arm of the Atlantic an almost ideal harbour of refuge. Leenane is the.name given to a fine hotel, near which are also a cottage or two, near the head of the fiord. The salmon and trout fishing in the neighbourhood are very fine.
