Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is a rhythm video game developed by iNiS Corporation and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS in 2005. The game is set in Japan and features a cheer squad rhythmically cheering for various troubled people, presented in-game in the style of a manga comic. In each stage, players use the DS touch screen to tap specifically marked spots that appear in rhythm to various Japanese pop songs, scoring points for accurate timing and avoiding a poor performance, which can cause the stage to end prematurely. The game has a plot line accompanied by specific songs, and each stage features a character (or characters) facing a problem that reaches a climax when they cry “Ouendan!”. This call summons the cheer squad, and the song starts. The game has two sequels: Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 and Elite Beat Agents, which was released internationally with characters and themes adapted to fit Western audiences.

If you’re a fan of rhythm games with catchy Japanese pop songs, then Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is definitely worth checking out!
