First printing (first state have long been disputed, with no definitive citation) with both the title page and copyright page dated 1919; page 76 is numbered; the type of the word "Burroughs" in the final line of page 76 is unbroken; the first line of page 100 reads "boat on the Sty"; the Dedication is to "The Booksellers". This is a suspenseful novel set in Brooklyn around the time of the end of World War I It continues the story of Roger Mifflin, the book seller in Parnassus on Wheels It also details an adventure of Miss Titania Chapman and a young advertising man named Aubrey Gilbert. Aubrey returns to visit Titania and experiences a series of unusual events: He is attacked on his way home from the store, an obscure book mysteriously disappears and reappears, and two strange characters are seen skulking in a nearby alleyway.
