An unusually large pair of antique French, quality bronze ormolu wall sconces, black painted base. Triple armed, rococo scrolling ribbon, acanthus leaf and rose motifs. 

Marie Antoinette depicted beneath the arms. Louis XVI in style dating back to the early1900s, probably earlier. 

These high-quality, antique French, bronze ormolu wall sconces, something of a decorator's piece, were sourced from a top French specialist dealer, and date to the fin de siècle, late 19th/early 20th c.

The Rococo, late Baroque design harks back to the decadent days of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette in France, and Casanova in Venice towards the end of the18th c. Indeed,  a portrait of Marie Antoinette is modelled beneath the acanthus leaf clad triple arms.

These sconces take their inspiration from the flowing floral and acanthus leaf Rococo motifs and scrolling curves much favoured by the gilded furniture makers of the period.

Each stepped leaf clad arm emerges from the torch design lower backplate, and is topped with a leaf bobeche drip pan and leaf candle sconce. Faded original black painted and gilded patination.

Original light fittings and old wiring still attached, but easily unscrewed for use with candles. Not PAT tested so sold as antique candle sconces with previous wiring still attached, ready to be rewired. We are including four decorative faux candles which are probably later.
