BARMOUTH BRIDGE AND CADER IDRIS.
Originally a little fishing village on the Merioneth coast, Barmouth (Anglicised from the Welsh Abermaw) has of late, owing to its mild and equable climate, grown rapidly into a favourite watering place. It is built on the angle between the sea and the estuary of the Mawddach river, across which the railway is carried by a light bridge three-quarters of a mile in length. The old cottages are very primitive, but some more modern houses are springing up. The beach is sandy, and the bathing and boating are excellent. The scenery around is magnificent, especially at high water, high hills rising in all directions, whilst across the estuary Cader Idris towers to the height of a thousand yards.
