DESCRIPTION
This is a very scarce, first edition of the work, in the original decorative publisher's binding, with a sea motif and fight scene to the front board.
Charles Dudley Lampen was a British author who was mostly known for his works of children's fiction, notably his Lost World novels, such as this one. Similar to this work, Lampen's books were bound with a decorative design, with colour and gilt detailing, as would appeal to children.
This particular novel is part of Lampen's Lost World series. In Barcali the Mutineer, the characters locate a hidden island, although there are many twists and turns along the way and a challenge of great difficulty of overthrowing Barcali the Mutineer.
With three plates, including a frontispiece, illustrated by British artist, illustrator and aviator Harold Piffard, who was known for his historic oil and watercolour paintings.
