Briggs Sterling Silver Square Loose Powder Compact
This stylish midcentury vintage compact has been exquisitely crafted
using Sterling Silver by Watson & Briggs company of Attelboro, MA. It has
a lovely etched pattern on front and back with a blank cartouche in the center
for personalization. A button opens the compact to reveal a mirror and a powder/puff
chamber. It still has its original
square puff and remnants of loose powder. The compact has a sleek design that
will fit smaller purses as well.
This compact has a nice heavy feel and weighs 82 grams including the mirror and accessories. It measures a little shy of 2.5”. It is signed STERLING with the Watson & Briggs Crown – W – Lion hallmark that was used by them between 1910 & 1950 and then the company was acquired by Wallace in 1955. This helps in reasonably dating the compact.
It is in excellent pre-owned vintage condition. There is mild oxidation that
can be easily polished. Compact has superficial scratches, but no scuffs or
dents Design is crisp. Mirror is clear and usable with no cracks. Powder puff is
quite frayed with age and use. There is no powder, just some remnants. The
hinged lid opens and closes tight. Cartouche is blank, ready for your initials.
