RARE Antique ROYAL DOULTON BLUE GNOME Match Holder Striker HARRY SIMEON c1920
This is a rare match holder/striker, designed by Harry Simeon, from Royal Doulton dating to c1920.
This striker has a characterful gnome, smoking a pipe, seated crossed-legged clutching a barrel which holds the matches. The gnome sits on a plinth with striking surface and the whole piece is finished in a BLUE glaze.
Old Man Smoking with Whiskey Barrel by artist Harry Simeon. This early Doulton Lambeth match striker, circa 1905, rarely available and this is the only one known in this color variation. The detailed expression on his face shows his delight in relaxing with his two favorite pastimes.
The striker is impressed with H 12 & the Royal Doulton England ‘4D’ mark and measures approx. 4 1/4 inches high.
It is in very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There is crazing which is consistent with the age of the piece. Please see all photos for condition. Photos taken with a high resolution camera under bright light.
