Very interesting piece of German History - Taler of the City of Munster (1534) during the "Anabaptist" Kingdom period.  This happened after legalization of the Reformation in 1533 when the Anabaptists gained majority of the Council and with the leading of John of Leyden completely controlled the City. That time the "Anabaptist" Kingdom was announced with establishing rules of freedom,  communal style of living, polygamy etc.. Eventually this "Kingdom" was conquered by Bishop Franz von Waldeck in 1535 and its leaders were publicly executed. The Anabaptist or so called "Wiederstaufer" Taler is reflecting religious Mottos of that turbulent time such as "He who has not been christened will not be saved. The Holy Ghost has become flesh and lives within us" and " A Divine Empire with one King stands above all, One God, one faith, one christening". Those Talers became so popular it has been restriked later in medallic or "souvenir" fashion in middle VII Century. This particular coin could be Ketteler's restrike from 1640 - used as medallic taler for the Reformation Peace Congress. Smoke toning, residual luster, sharp strike! Hosted in oversized holder. Completely amazing piece of history as well as desirable collector's item!!
