This listing is for a pretty little vintage Murano teardrop shaped art glass paperweight. This small blown and stretched glass paperweight was most likely made in the 1970's or 1980's in Venice, Italy on the island of Murano and is similar in style to glass produced by the well know glass houses of Flavio Poli and Archimede Seguso. The piece was created with a sommerso effect and has a core of sapphire blue glass submerged in turquoise blue glass. Finally, the entire piece was submerged in clear glass creating depth. The top of the paperweight has been stretched to a point to create the teardrop shape. The paperweight measures approximately 3-1/4 inches wide at its widest point and is 1-3/4 inches deep and stands 5-3/4 inches tall. It weighs 1 pound and 4 ounces. The paperweight is not marked but the pontil mark on the base where the glass was attached to the blowing apparatus has been polished smooth and to a shine, indicating superior workmanship. The vase is in very good used vintage condition with respect to age and use. It has no cracks or repairs. There is a slight rough spot on the tip and a spot just below that appears to be either a tool mark or a tiny smooth chip (see last photo). There are a few very light surface scratches on the body and some minor shelf wear on the bottom. Overall, this paperweight is a beautiful little piece of vintage Murano art glass and would make a nice addition to your collection.
