Many high end vehicles in the 1930s and ’40s featured an exterior push button door handle as a feature not found on base models or other vehicle lines. Over the ensuing decades car manufacturers went from pull-type handles to flush fit “lift up” handles and then back to pull-type handles (some handles pull outward to actuate the latch versus a push button in the handle). Now we are seeing the return of the exterior push button latch on many new cars, although they are now electrically actuated. The post-war standout here was the 1946 Lincoln Continental and its push button door handles. Lincoln had used push button door handles on earlier Lincoln Zephyr models, but the 1946-1948 Continental buttons have become hot rodder favorites.
If you’re looking to do something different and make a statement with your hot rod, then our 1946-1948 Lincoln push button door latches are for you. These are not reproductions of the original Lincoln push button door handle, but a reimagining of Lincoln’s unique door push buttons and their circular button pattern in an easier to install solution that will integrate with the included door latches more easily. We have provided these push button door handles with precise latch adjustment via threaded rod end adjusters that allow infinite adjustment to meld the push button actuation with the door latch, ensuring your doors easily open every time the button is pushed.
Created from CNC machined aluminum and given a highly polished finish, our Lincoln push button latch can be surface mounted or flush/frenched into your door. This kit includes two push button assemblies and two weld-in Frenching panels for that great flush fit look. The button is secured by the included stainless steel mounting bracket and retaining nut. Note that these buttons are designed for push button release of your vehicle’s doors (or trunk or any latching panel really) but they do not provide any form of lock functionality. You will still need to either fit a manual key lock to your door or some form of electronic lock that works off a remote control or anti-theft/remote start system.
Our can be surface mounted with the simple drilling of a single hole. However, if you’re looking for that extra cool look of a frenched in door push button to match your headlights or other Frenched in trim our Lincoln door push button handle Frenching panel is a quick and easy way to get those door buttons dropped into your door skin. Simply fire up the welder and carefully run a stitch around this 3-9/16-inch diameter 20-gauge panel and you’ll be ready to drop your Lincoln door buttons in.
We also offer a CNC machined 4130 steel [dimple die tool] (916032662) as an alternative to welding. Simply drill a register hole, fit the die into place, and tighten the bolt to form the correct flush fit Frenched in opening required to mount the Lincoln door release button. Whatever your choice, welding or using a die, we have the solution to flush mounting your new Lincoln push button door handles.
