Very Rare Antique Civil War Period Carte de Visite Photo of Young Man Wearing Unique Rubberized Hat.

DESCRIPTION:  Rare, extremely unusual antique CIVIL WAR PERIOD Carte de Visite photo as shown.  Not something often seen generally, and especially not one chosen to be photographed in. MUST HAVE BEEN VERY IMPORTANT TO HIM.  Was this just to keep the rain off?  Was it a river pilot or someone like that who would have worn it?  Was he an  fire department member, or another official service or capacity? That's my guess.  It was certainly something VERY special to him.

This one was in an original Civil War period CdV album. Very clear, in excellent condition. Standard CdV measurements.
