  • Bezeichnung: Der Kupferstich wurde in roter Farbe hergestellt, die besonders im 18. Jahrhundert nur selten und für besondere Anlässe eingesetzt wurde. Unterhalb der Darstellung bezeichnet in Niederländisch und Latein: "Naamen, in het landschap van die naam, op het zaamen vloeyen van Maas en Sambre: door de Fransche gewonnen, 1692, door Koning Willem 1693, doch heden weder onder de Fransche Haar gesicht is in ons Stede bock ; Paralleltitel: Namurcum, ad Mosæ ac Sabis confluentes: cessit Gallis, 1692; Wilhelmo regi, 1693; hodie tamen rursus Gallis. Conspectus eius in Hecatompoli". In der Platte signiert und mit Ortsangabe: "Pet. Schenk exc. Amst C. P.".

  • Beschreibung: Aus: "Frederik den Femtes Atlas, Bd. 12, Tvl. 57.". Peter Schenk der Ältere war ein deutscher Kupferstecher und Kartograf aus Elberfeld, heute zu Wuppertal. Um 1684 zog er nach Amsterdam und wurde Schüler von Gerard Valck, spezialisiert in Schabkunst; Reisen nach Leipzig und Berlin. Bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1718/19 gab er zahlreiche Karten und Bilder heraus.

  • Zustand: Guter Zustand. Das Blatt ist altersbedingt leicht verfärbt und stockfleckig; vertikale Falzspur zeugt von der Herkunft des Blattes aus einem Atlas; oben innerhalb des Rähmchens beschnitten. Das dekorative Blatt macht einen sehr guten Eindruck.

  • Inscription: The copper engraving was produced in red colour, which was used only rarely and for special occasions, especially in the 18th century. Inscribed below the image in Dutch and Latin: "Naamen, in het landschap van die naam, op het zaamen vloeyen van Maas en Sambre: door de Fransche gewonnen, 1692, door Koning Willem 1693, doch heden weder onder de Fransche Haar gesicht is in ons Stede bock ; Parallel title: Namurcum, ad Mosæ ac Sabis confluentes: cessit Gallis, 1692; Wilhelmo regi, 1693; hodie tamen rursus Gallis.   • Description: From: "Frederik den Femtes Atlas, Vol. 12, Tvl. 57.". Peter Schenk the Elder was a German engraver and cartographer from Elberfeld, now part of Wuppertal. Around 1684 he moved to Amsterdam and became a pupil of Gerard Valck, specialising in mezzotint; he travelled to Leipzig and Berlin. Until his death in 1718/19 he published numerous maps and pictures.

  • Condition: Good condition. The sheet is slightly discoloured and foxed due to its age; vertical fold trace testifies to the sheet's origin from an atlas; top trimmed within the frame. The decorative sheet makes a very good impression.
