This is a deeply musical and thrilling account of this great work, pretty well recorded for its period and very well played.

This was, I believe, a Vox/Turnabout stereo recording, sounding direct and clear. The orchestral balance is well managed. The sound can be a bit stark in places, but not such as to diminish the enjoyment of this thrilling account. The German radio orchestra given their considerable all for Horenstein, a great conductor and fine musician - not always the same thing!!

Nimbus-made disc.

The CD is very good and plays faultlessly. The box is rough, rather scratchy and rubbed through use, but intact and fully-functioning. The insert, such as it is, is okay.

Catalogue number MC GC2. It was released in 1990 as part of a series accompanying a monthly publication. This is the disc only offered for sale here. I suspect the recording was made sometime in the late 50s/early 60s.
