  • Beschreibung: Zwischen 1521 und 1522 verbrachte Luther zehn Monate als "Junker Jörg" auf der Wartburg und übersetzte dort das Neue Testament ins Deutsche. Die Fotografie stammt aus der Serie Bilder aus Thüringen und ist mit "No 289" nummeriert. Original-Fotografie mit hoher Detailschärfe. Ein frühes Zeugnis der Reisefotografie. Um die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts reisten immer mehr Touristen aus bürgerlichen Kreisen in Europa. Fotografien konnten damals nur mit hohem zeitlichem Aufwand und einer teuren, unhandlichen Apparatur entstehen. Umso dankbarer griffen viele Touristen auf die Arbeiten der professionellen Fotografenateliers vor Ort zurück, um den Zuhausegebliebenen ein Souvenir aus der Ferne mitzubringen oder sie als Erinnerungsstücke zu sammeln. Die Fotografen lichteten die bekanntesten Sehenswürdigkeiten ihrer Heimatstädte ab und begaben sich selbst auf Reisen, um die beliebtesten Ziele ihrer Kunden zu fotografieren und als Albuminabzug anzubieten. Auch antike Kunstschätze wurden fotografisch aufgenommen und den Reisenden angeboten. Die hochwertigen Fotografien der Skulpturen und Fresken leisteten weiterhin einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Dokumentation der Kunstschätze und der Zugänglichkeit für Wissenschaftler aus ganz Europa, die zuvor auf Nachzeichnungen oder Stiche angewiesen waren, wenn sie nicht das Original selbst betrachten konnten.

  • Description: Between 1521 and 1522, Luther spent ten months as "Junker Jörg" at Wartburg Castle, where he translated the New Testament into German.
