  • Beschreibung: Oberkörperportrait des protestantischen Theologen und Wegbereiters der historisch-kritischen Bibelwissenschaft Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten mit gelockter Perücke und Beffchen an einem Tisch ein Schriftstück studierend. Der offene Blick ist dem Betrachter zugewandt, hinter ihm erlaubt ein zurückgeschobener Vorhang den Blick auf einige Buchrücken. Das Portrait beruht auf einem Gemälde von Johann Christian Heinrich Sporleder von 1757, das sich heute in Besitz der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg befindet.

  • Description: Upper body portrait of the Protestant theologian and pioneer of historical-critical biblical scholarship Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten with a curly wig and mop, studying a document at a table. His open gaze is turned towards the viewer; behind him, a curtain that has been pushed back allows a view of some book spines. The portrait is based on a painting by Johann Christian Heinrich Sporleder from 1757, which is now in the possession of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
