Offered today is an antique platinum Art Deco era diamond engagement ring in a petite finger size of 3.5. The previous owner must have had a slightly arthritic knuckle, because she went through tremendous expense to add a PLATINUM Finger-Mate arthritic shank to this ring. It opens up three finger sizes to go over the knuckle, then snaps back on and you'd never know it was there. These are wildly expensive--just the expandable shank in platinum and this thickness would have been $600-$700 new, and then there's the work to rebuild the ring to be perfect with the new shank. Anyway, back to this engagement ring.

The diamond is a chunky old European cut with an open culet, measuring 5.85 x 3.26 mm deep which calculates to about .70 ct. It is graded as H/I color and I1 clarity, by our experienced estate jeweler. It's set in a four-pronged head with two single-cut diamonds encrusted into little heads with beadwork around them, on the shoulders. Total diamond weight in this ring is about .74 ctw.

I have shown it with a diamond wedding band in the photos to give an idea of what it looks like with a band. BAND IS NOT INCLUDED.

The Finger Mate shank is marked 90Plat10Irid and the ring top tests positive for platinum as well. Despite the shank, the ring can be sized by a competent jeweler who knows what he/she is doing. It weighs 5.4 grams, is a size 3.5 and is in excellent antique condition.
