R O B E R T O   G A I

Was born in Livorno in 1948

This Tuscan artist loves to portray the countryside, enchanting landscapes, fields of sunflowers and poppies, old ruins and farmhouses at sunset they come to life in his canvases in fact, his paintings want to offer one and only message inner tranquility.

The vision of a country area crossed by a path or a flowery field, reproduced through a splendid painting, arouses our interest with unique sensations, as if something had awakened our memories and with the need to transmit positive feelings in our environment and to other people.

Roberto has traveled this path following the traces of color, expressing himself with a simple and effective language, an artist who grew up self-taught who has forged his style according to his strength of mind, with his instinct but, above all, with his marked soul sensitivity.

In his youth he tried to incorporate the lessons of the great masters of the Tuscan artistic tradition, grasping important notions, combining research and study, including all this with his spontaneous character, he rejected the classic schemes as much as any easy coloring effect, to base the his style on a clear composition obtaining a result as close as possible to reality.

Observing his works one can clearly read his pictorial message where the color is spread with care, flat and warm, following precise lines. lover of simplicity, Gai transposes his inner poetry through his colors, the countryside is always reproduced with strong passion and involvement.

In reality he has not abandoned the original "post-macchia" (i.e. the pictorial movement that followed the matrix of the Tuscan impressionism genre, the Post-Macchiaioli) but constantly studies and searches for new elements, analyzing all the angles, lights and shadows that can contribute to making a uniform painting, moreover he is not interested in the latest trends, what is always present in his work is "Nature", his guide and teacher on every occasion, a versatile Livornese artist linked to tradition through peaceful rural landscapes.

Gai is a great artist, a serious professional who dedicates all of himself to painting, which, for him is life and love, his complete dedication is repaid by the enormous and ever-increasing response he gets from critics and the public, he lives and works in Livorno maritime city in Tuscany at the artistic studios in the Ardenza district, where together with students and colleagues, he promotes the passion for art and for the Tuscan land.
