A scarce new edition. Complete in eight volumes. Translated from the original French.

Uniformly bound in full calf with gilt detail.

Illustrated with eleven folding maps throughout, and a frontispiece in volume one.

Rollin's renowned ancient history of the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes, Persians, Macedonians and Grecians. Including details on customs, religion, notable wars, and famous people. Although later proven somewhat inaccurate, this work was highly regarded and influential for many generations.

Charles Rollin was a French historian, educator and rector of the University of Paris, whose work was highly popular during the eighteenth century. Other notable titles by Rollin include, 'Roman History', and, 'Treatise on Education'.


CONDITION

Uniformly bound in full calf. Externally, very smart with some rubbing to the extremities. Spines are darkened. Marks to the boards, heavier on volumes four to eight. Some loss to the upper spine of volume seven. Small bookseller's label to the front paste-down of volume one. The occasional mark to the paste-downs and free endpapers, with some age-toning and the occasional offsetting to the reverse of the free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned but generally bright and clean. Light spotting and offsetting throughout, spotting heavier surrounding the folding maps. Small stamp from the previous owner to the front blanks. Spotting, age-toning and the occasional creasing to the folding maps. Offsetting from the frontispiece and a small puncture to the front blank of volume one. Offsetting from the frontispiece to the title page of volume one. Creasing to page xvi of volume one. Closed tear of about one and a half inches to the map on page one of volume one and to the map facing the title page of volume five. The occasional creasing to the blanks.
