With the register [A2], B-E2. Collated, complete.

Signed 'Philonomus' at the end of the final leaf, as called for.

This very scarce work details the 1681 proceedings held at the Old Baily against Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury, following his heading of the movement to bar James II from succession to the monarchy due to his Catholic faith.

His sponsorship of the Exclusion Bill in 1679 led to two years of political struggle, but ultimately ended in defeat. During the subsequent Tory reaction in 1681, Shaftesbury was arrested for high treason, a prosecution dropped several months later.

Despite the dropped prosecution, Shaftesbury feared re-arrest and execution, and fled to Amsterdam, where he died in 1683.
