DESCRIPTION

The first edition.

Harrison introduces this work by acknowledging the extent to which old buildings have been neglected. He suggests that when a building is lost, its memories die.

Harrison created this work to celebrate the history of old buildings in an age of industrialisation and modernisation. To Harrison a building is more than a roof, it is described as having a 'soul'. In this text Harrison explores these ideas through a detailed case study of Sutton Place, Guilford.

The text is accompanied by plates and detailed vignette showing how this area and buildings have changed. It also includes 8 full colour plates showing coats of arms of significant people associated with this area. It is accompanied by 70 illustrations. Collated complete.
