DESCRIPTION

Very scarce work.

This text is dated 1841 to the front paper wrap, dated 1840 to the title page. British Library details the date of publication as 1840.

Illustrated with two plates. Collated complete.

An historical study of Saltwood Castle in Kent, England, of 11th century origin. The castle was expanded in the 13th and 14th centuries, and, after the Norman Conquest, was appropriated by the Archbishop of Canterbury Lanfranc.

CONDITION

Bound in contemporary quarter cloth with paper covered boards, with the original paper wraps bound in. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the board. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting particularly to the first and last few pages. Age toning to the extremities. Cardiff library bookplate and stamp to the front pastedown. Cardiff library bookplate to the front endpaper.
