The Brilliant World of Tom Gates, by L. Pichon, is a delightful, illustrated children’s book. It is the first title in the Tom Gates series of eight books and was the winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2011.

Summary of the Book

Tom Gates can never run out of justifications for late homework, dog attacks, split water, and even lightning. Tom's exercise book is filled with his doodles, cartoons, other crazy ideas, and comments from his long-suffering teacher called Mr. Fullerton. After securing five merits for his 'Camping Sucks' holiday story, Tom's work starts to go downhill. This is quite pitiful because he is desperate to impress Amy Porter, who sits beside him.
