  • Beschreibung: Dieser Stich zeig das Porträt des René-Michel Slodtz, der einer ursprünglich aus Flandern stammenden Bildhauerfamilie angehörte. Wie sein Vater Sébastien Slodtz (1655-1726) sowie zwei Brüder war er am Hofe Ludwigs XIV. als Künstler tätig und war für das skulpturale Bildprogramm sowie Dekorationskunst zuständig. Der jüngere Bruder René-Michel hatte sich durch seine Arbeit als Bildhauer besonders ausgezeichnet und daher den Spitznamen Michel-Ange erhalten. Das Porträt ist als Büste im Profil dargestellt und erinnert in seiner Nüchternheit sowohl an Marmorbüsten als auch an Schmuckmedaillons, worin sich die Tätigkeit der Brüder wiederspiegelt.

  • Description: This engraving shows the portrait of René-Michel Slodtz, who belonged to a family of sculptors originally from Flanders. Like his father Sébastien Slodtz (1655-1726) and two brothers, he worked as an artist at the court of Louis XIV and was responsible for the sculptural programme and decorative art. The younger brother René-Michel had particularly distinguished himself through his work as a sculptor and was therefore nicknamed Michel-Ange. The portrait is depicted as a bust in profile and is reminiscent in its sobriety of both marble busts and decorative medallions, reflecting the brothers' activities.
