  • Beschreibung: Ganzfigurige Darstellung eines römischen Feldherren in Rüstung, mit auf den Rücken gefesselten Händen. Den Kopf stolz erhoben, lässt er sich von einer Menschenmenge betrachten. Vielleicht der von Piraten gefangene Julius Caesar, der über das Unwissen der Entführer spottet, da sie nur ein geringes Lösegeld fordern.

  • Inscription: Verso inscribed by another person: "Cornelis Trost 1697 - 1750 Amsterdam".

  • Date: 18th century

  • Description: Full-length portrayal of a Roman general in armour with his hands tied behind his back. His head proudly raised, he allows himself to be scrutinised by a crowd. Perhaps Julius Caesar, captured by pirates, mocking the ignorance of his captors as they demand only a small ransom.

  • Condition: Rather good condition. Occasional pale foxing recognisable. Full-page horizontal crease at the top, presumably torn and restored on the right. Some slight creases in the corners. Some staining along the right edge of the sheet.
