  • Beschreibung: Original-Fotografie mit hoher Detailschärfe. Ein frühes Zeugnis der Reisefotografie. Um die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts reisten immer mehr Touristen aus bürgerlichen Kreisen nach Italien. Fotografien konnten damals nur mit hohem zeitlichem Aufwand und einer teuren, unhandlichen Apparatur entstehen. Umso dankbarer griffen viele Touristen auf die Arbeiten der professionellen Fotografenateliers vor Ort zurück, um den Zuhausegebliebenen ein Souvenir aus der Ferne mitzubringen oder sie als Erinnerungsstücke zu sammeln. Berühmt gewordene Fotografen wie Carlo Naya, Giorgio Sommer oder die Gebrüder Alinari lichteten die bekanntesten Sehenswürdigkeiten ihrer Heimatstädte ab und begaben sich selbst auf Reisen, um die beliebtesten Ziele ihrer Kunden zu fotografieren und als Albuminabzug anzubieten. Auch antike Kunstschätze wurden fotografisch aufgenommen und den Reisenden angeboten. Die hochwertigen Fotografien der Skulpturen und Fresken leisteten weiterhin einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Dokumentation der Kunstschätze und der Zugänglichkeit für Wissenschaftler aus ganz Europa, die zuvor auf Nachzeichnungen oder Stiche angewiesen waren, wenn sie nicht das Original selbst betrachten konnten.

Stellenweise Schäden und kleine Retuschen der Fotoplatte erkennbar. Die linke untere Blattecke ist umgeknickt. Oben mittig restaurierter Randeinriss und blasse braune Flecken. Oben links entlang der Kante knittrig.

  • Description: Original photograph with high sharpness of detail. An early testimony of travel photography. Around the middle of the 19th century, more and more tourists from middle-class circles travelled to Italy. At that time, photographs could only be taken with a great deal of time and expensive, unwieldy equipment. This made many tourists all the more grateful for the work of the professional photographer's studios on site to bring back a souvenir from afar for those who stayed at home or to collect as souvenirs. Famous photographers such as Carlo Naya, Giorgio Sommer or the Alinari brothers photographed the most famous sights of their home cities and went on journeys themselves to photograph the most popular destinations of their clients and offer them as albumen prints. Ancient art treasures were also photographed and offered to travellers. Damage and small retouching of the photographic plate visible in places. The lower left corner of the sheet is folded. Top centre restored marginal tear and pale brown spots. Creased along the edge at the upper left.
