SHIPPING ON THE CLYDE, PARTICK, GLASGOW.
Proceeding from the Broomielaw Wharf down the Clyde, the traveller reaches Govan Ferry, about opposite the mouth of the river Kelvin as it falls into the larger river on the other side. Here the public docks and quays end on both sides, to be succeeded by a long array of those ship-yards which have given the Clyde so world-wide a celebrity. Govan is a district of such yards on the left (going downwards), and Partick is the corresponding district on the right, commencing from the mouth of the Kelvin. Behind rises Gilmour Hill, on the top of which, towards the left hand, can be seen the buildings of the University, from which a good outlook is obtained over the busy scene.
