This is a cast resin  replica of the right mandible from the Late Devonian super predator, Dunkleosteus terrelli. Dunkleosteus belonged to a group of heavily armored fish known as placoderms, and is by far and away the largest and most famous of the group. By quickly opening it's mouth, Dunkleosteus created a negative space in the surrounding water which acted as a vacuum to suck prey in. Rather than teeth, this predator had a set of self sharpening blades at the front of the mouth which were derived from preferential thickening of the jaw bone itself. The heads of these animals were so heavily armored that even the eyeball was armored.

My cast replicas are created from natural fossils using an eco friendly plant based mold making material that is reusable. Made to order so items may differ from the image of the listing.

Items are hand painted where appropriate and sealed with a clear coat finish. This adds to the texture in addition to preserving the paint job, for example the shiny enamel of a megalodon tooth cast is achieved this way. However, it may be accompanied with a paint thinner like smell. I've only had this complained about once, but if this is the case please wash item with soap and water and allow to sit outside for the smell to subside.

If item is defective please let me know and we will make it right by issuing a refund or sending a replacement.
