Whether it is a sportsman level circle track car, a bracket class drag racer, or a good old fashioned demo derby ride, no matter what you strap yourself into on a Saturday night, you should be thinking about your safety. Your number one fans (your family!) love to watch you race, but they also want to see you make it through your race weekend. We can’t always control what happens on the racing surface, so your best bet is to be properly protected for those instances where you’re simply “along for the ride” and need to keep yourself protected from instances of fire. A quality racing suit is just what you need, and our single layer FRC-based jacket is the perfect answer for sportsman level racing classes that do not require Nomex-based protective gear.
Our SFI-1 driving suit jacket offers peace of mind and when it comes to fire protection. The single-layer, SFI 3.2A/1 fire suit jacket has a TPP (Thermal Protection Performance) rating of 6, promising up to three seconds of protection from second degree burns. While three seconds doesn’t sound like much time, with practice you should easily be able to release your harness and exit your race car within a period of time that the TPP rating will be sufficient. Learn more about SFI and TPP Ratings by reading our tech article, on the Toolbox. You can also pair this suit with our and to increase your fire protection TPP values.
The popular one-piece driving suit construction often creates issues with those of differing body types. If you have a short inseam, but perhaps bigger across the chest, a one piece suit that fits in the chest area will usually mean overly long pants legs that bunch up. Opting for a two piece suit combination means you can choose different sizes for your driving suit pants and your jacket. For example, you may better fit in a “Large” pants and a “X-Large” jacket for the best fit. Dual reinforced epaulets give safety crews a secure grab point in the event of extraction from the car, while the elastic wrist cuffs minimize heat and fire entry. Our two piece suit jacket uses a “shiny” FRC material, which is more durable and is easier to clean as well.
The tight fabric weave and shiny surface of the material make the racing fire suit jacket easier to keep clean, since dirt has a harder time penetrating the racing suit’s fibers. This is a great bonus for dirt track racers, yet the racing suit jacket is completely washable in standard home appliances using any one of our products. Though spot cleaning is often all your suit will need. Be sure to follow washing instructions carefully to prevent reduction in fire-retardant capabilities of the suit. Our shiny single layer fire suit jacket comes in black or gray with contrasting shoulder epaulets/side panels and are available in five sizes, ranging from Small to Double X-Large, which covers chest sizing from 36 to 52 inches. See our for complete sizing details and watch our video to ensure you accurately measure your body for your new jacket and pants. We offer our single layer separately or we offer a complete single layer with jacket and pants as well.
