“CITY OF KING DAVID” SIGNED ORIGINAL LIMITED EDITION COLOR LITHOGRAPH BY ISRAELI ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER YOSSI STERN (1923-1992)    

This limited edition color lithograph, titled “City of King David”, is by the Israeli artist Yossi Stern, who is known as “the Painter of Jerusalem” and one of Israel’s foremost artists. The lithograph is signed in pencil by the artist in the margin below the image right: Yossi Stern. The lithograph is numbered in pencil in the margin below the image left: 2/150. 

The image size of the lithograph measures 22 3/4 x 17 inches. The lithograph is printed on wove paper. The full sheet measures 27 1/2 x 19 3/4 inches. The lithograph comes unframed. 

PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: There is evidence of toning with mat burn to the sheet front (mat window open area), and the verso has masking tape hinge remnants at the top edge, otherwise the lithograph image is in very good condition with no evidence of any damage to the image.

Yossi (Joseph) Stern was born in the Bakon Hills of Hungary in 1923. He immigrated to Israel in 1939 to escape the Holocaust but was declared an illegal immigrant and spent six months in a prison camp. He studied art at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, the Royal Academy of Art in London and on his own in Paris. He was acclaimed for his illustrations which he created for many newspapers, books and publications in Israel. He was a master aquarellist, draughtsman, photographer and oil painter. Stern was Professor of Graphic Arts at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, a position he held for more than twenty years.
