TITLE UNKNOWN [ PARIS CANAL SCENE ] SIGNED ORIGINAL LIMITED EDITION COLOR LITHOGRAPH BY FRENCH ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER YVES GANNE (b.1931)    

This limited edition color lithograph, featuring a canal scene in Paris, is by the French artist Yves Ganne who is known as one of the “School of Paris” artists. The lithograph is signed in pencil by the artist in the margin below the image right: Y. Ganne, and numbered in pencil in the margin below the image left: 176/275. 

The image size of the lithograph measures 15 1/8 x 20 inches. The lithograph is printed on deckle edged wove paper. The full sheet measures 19 7/8 x 25 7/8 inches. The lithograph comes unframed. 

PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: There is evidence of toning with mat burn to the sheet front (mat window open area), and the verso has a masking tape residue along the top edge, otherwise the lithograph image is in very good condition with no evidence of any damage to the image.       

Yves Ganne was born in Angers, Anjou, France in July of 1931. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts of Nantes and with Fernand Léger in Paris. Ganne first received critical notice at the exhibition of the “Prix de la Jeune Peinture” in 1950 and was awarded the Prix de la Ville de Menton in the same year. Ganne had his first Paris exhibition in 1954 at Drouant David's, where he exhibited again in 1957. He exhibited in London at Tooth and Son's and in several group shows in France and abroad. Ganne's vividly colored landscapes and still life pieces have been acquired by the French government, the City of Paris and the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris. He is listed in the French-language Benezit Dictionary of Artists as School of Paris.

 

His works consist of a broad spectrum of subjects including people, inanimate objects, and landscape. One of his most notable works is the Still of Pears. He varies between his color palette, practicing both deeper rich tones and black and white.
