  • Bezeichnung: Unterhalb der Darstellung bezeichnet in Niederländisch und Latein. Mittig unterhalb der Darstellung signiert mit "P. Schenk exc. Amst. C. P.". Ursprungswerk: "Schouwburg van den oorlog, beginnende van koning Karel den II. tot op Koning Karel den III" (Amsterdam : Schenk, erstmals 1706).
    Peter Schenk der Ältere war ein deutscher Kupferstecher und Kartograf aus Elberfeld, heute zu Wuppertal. Um 1684 zog er nach Amsterdam und wurde Schüler von Gerard Valck, spezialisiert in Schabkunst; Reisen nach Leipzig und Berlin.   • Zustand: Akzeptabler Zustand. Das Blatt ist altersgemäß leicht verfärbt; im rechten Bildbereich ist eine vertikale Faltspur zu sehen; vereinzelt kleine Farbspritzer. Der seltene Druck macht einen sehr guten Eindruck.

    Peter Schenk the Elder was a German engraver and cartographer from Elberfeld, now part of Wuppertal. Around 1684 he moved to Amsterdam and became a pupil of Gerard Valck, specialising in mezzotint; he travelled to Leipzig and Berlin. Until his death in 1718/19 he published numerous maps and pictures. Please also note our other works in the Peter Schenk series.

  • Condition: Rather good condition. The print is a little bit discoloured due to its age; there is a vertical folding trace in the right part of the image; isolated small splashes of colour. The rare print makes a very good impression.
